Punta Banda Bunk Bed Options
All Punta Banda Bunk Beds feature very large drawers that open effortlessly under the bottom bunk for substantial storage. You can order the bed with drawers on both sides, one side, or no drawers. A climbing ladder can be on each end (standard option) or just one (you choose!). You can even add a bottom bunk headboard on one of the ends instead of—or in addition to—a ladder. The headboard is in the same style of the safety railing on the bed above. Finally, we offer the option of Extra-Tall Railings, which are useful if you use a thicker mattress.
Our Bunk Bed frame is SUPER strong, with our Twin-Over-Queen size weighing in at 340 pounds without the mattresses! The Punta Banda bed includes "Bunkie Boards" in a plentiful supply. We use 1x6 boards that are spaced about 2 inches apart. These provide maximum support for both mattresses. Finely sanded and sporting a wax finish, it's easily maintained year after year with little more than dusting. It's a bed built to outlast the most energetic of kids and be passed down to the next generation!
Punta Banda Bunk Beds
All beds are 76"H total to the top of the safety railings, 66"H to the top of the upper mattress framing, and 62"H to the base of the upper mattress framing. Drawers are 7 1/2"H.
The upper mattress sits inside the frame 4 1/2". The standard safety rails are exactly 10" above the frame. Depending on the thickness of the mattress you are using, this is usually sufficient. If you are using a thick mattress or would just like the safety rails to be taller, you can choose our tall safety rail option at check out (16" instead of 10").
The Punta Banda bed does not need a box spring. The bed comes with plenty of strong Bunkie boards to support the mattress by itself. There are 47 inches of "head space" between the lower Bunkie boards where the mattress sits and the bottom edge of the upper Bunkie boards.
Each bed in the Redwood grade can support up to 750 lbs, and in Douglas-fir, up to 900 lbs total weight.

Tip: Standard mattress sizes are Twin: 75" x 39", Double: 75" x 54", Queen: 80" x 60", and King: 80" x 76". Also note, for the purposes of determining the "north" end of the bed, just remember that north will be to the left of the outer-facing side of the bed. When the sizes are the same top and bottom, the bed is reversible and either side can then be north.
