Get Involved with the Restoration Forestry Movement
Apply Our Methods on Your Own Land
- Put a conservation easement on your land. This will insure that your land will never be ravaged again. The conservation easement significantly reduces the land's value for many years. This is a tax-deductible charitable contribution. If interested, you can either email us and we’ll forward information about easements or get a copy of the forest restoration manual below. The manual includes the standard easement we use on our lands and details what is involved.
- Download or order a print copy of our forest restoration manual, The Old-Growth Again Project: Restoring Logged Forests One Tree at a Time. Learn the techniques we learned while serving the forest. These include: soil buildup and erosion abatement, raising the canopy and letting the forest breathe again, creating habitat, thinning to favor the natural and ancient form, and fire hazard reduction. The manual includes photos, studies, articles and references to other publications. It lays out our long-term vision and it is a good jumping off point for anyone interested in an in-depth study of the ecological and economical possibilities restorative forestry offers. 85 pages. - Study your own area's mature or ancient forest and learn the natural balance. In the forest restoration manual, you’ll find many additional reading references to arm you with all the data and background information you’ll need to transform yourself into an informed landowner. And, we are always available via email or phone if you have specific questions.
- Design a timber management plan to restore your forest to its ancient form in one hundred years by thinning weaker trees, planting where necessary and eventually harvesting a portion of the growth rate according to ecological, rather than economical, principles. If your lands are in N. California, email us. We’ll get you in touch with the right professionals.
- Stay in touch. An alliance is stronger than any one.
