Storage Bench Options

We’ve heard from our customers the storage benches make a great toy box too! We can custom size any of our items to fit your needs. Just let us know.

Ventilation Holes or Hermetically Sealed

The storage bench is elevated off the ground by one inch and has one inch diameter holes in the base of the box for ventilation. We have also added 1/4-inch diameter holes just beneath the lip on the back side wall of the storage bench. This will allow for cross ventilation while not allowing water to get into the box. Or, you can choose to have your storage bench hermetically sealed—without the ventilation holes—during the checkout process. Our storage bench is made with tongue and groove construction so it is water tight!

With or Without Feet

You can also add feet that elevate your storage bench 3/4" off the ground for no additional charge. See image at right.

Single or Split Seat

Our standard seat is a single flap that opens front-to-back. Also available for no additional charge are a variety of split seat options: double flap (front-to-back), double-flap (side-to-side), and triple flap (front-to-back). See photos to the right for the difference between a single and a split seat. (L-R: standard single seat, split seat with double flap side-to-side.) We can also make compartments in the box to line up with the double and triple split seat options for a small additional charge. Just let us know.

Parquet Option

If you would like a special look for your storage bench, check out our Parquet option. This is our "Rolls Royce" version storage bench and is available for a small additional charge. The walls are 1 3/4" solid wood. Like every other storage bench, it can be ordered with or without ventilation holes and with the split top too, if you so desire.

Custom Engraving

Would you like to add an engraving to your bench? We can add a custom message for only $20 for up to 50 characters (letters and spaces) or $30 for 51-100 characters. See examples to the right, shown on our Ti Amo Memorial Benches. Just select the "Custom Engraving" option in the drop-down menu in your shopping cart. The engraving size translates to about 14 characters per foot. Lettering is black. We will center the engraving on the top board of the backrest or the seat of a backless bench, unless you specify elsewhere. Please let us know your instructions on placement and line break(s)— if not specified, they will be placed at shop's discretion.

If you'd like a particular font style for your custom engraving, just send us a Word or PDF doc with the font, spacing, and wording you would like. Send it to raul@foreverredwood.com after you place your order. Be sure to let us know you're sending it in the comment box during checkout, so we know to expect it. We will do our best to match the style. Due to limitations of the engraving tool, we may not be able do extra-fancy fonts. Here is an example of the kind of document you can send us.

Memorial Plaque Inlay

We can also inlay a memorial plaque from your local engraver— we don't order or make the plaques ourselves— for no additional charge. Once your plaque is made you can ship it to us at 33800 Annapolis Rd., Annapolis, CA 95412. Be sure to let us know during checkout in the "Special Instructions & Custom Requests" comment box that you will be sending a plaque so we know to hold your bench until it arrives. Then give us a call or use our contact form when you ship it so we can be on the lookout for it. We will then inlay your plaque in the center of the top backrest board, unless otherwise specified. If placed in this location, the plaque can be up to 3" and any width you like. If there is no backrest (backless bench), please let us know where you'd like the plaque placed.

Super-Strong Casters

You can also add on super-strong casters that are rated to handle 320 pounds each, and they lock in place! You can add a set of four casters to your storage bench for $79 during checkout. (Benches 96" and longer require a set of 6 casters to accommodate the extra weight.) The casters are 4" tall and we add a 1 3/4" thick extra support base for them, so the total height of the bench is increased by 5 3/4". The casters are pictured at left on our Potting Bench and a Planter Box.

Storage Benches Dimensions

The interior dimensions of the boxes are roughly 2 inches less than the external dimensions. We say "roughly" because the walls are 7/8" thick, but there is also 1 3/4" thick framing on the corners. So, inside, due to the thickness of the walls, you lose 1 3/4" internally. But, on the corners where the framing is you lose 1 3/4" also. The height is 2" less internally for all sizes.

If one of our standard sizes is just a bit too small to hold your cushions, but you don't want to move up to the next highest size, just order the standard sized boxes and in the comment section let us know you need an extra inch or three in height or width or length or any combination thereof. We'll make the custom size changes of a couple inches for no extra charge.

Wood Samples: If you'd like to experience the quality of our wood before placing a furniture order—or if you'd like to see first-hand the difference between our five grades of wood—we offer a set of wood samples. For $20 we'll expedite your samples anywhere in the continental US (or $25 to Hawaii, Alaska, and Canada). The purchase price will be refunded on your first furniture order.

Finish Options

Your furniture can be finished in one of five ways (select during checkout):

• Premium Sealant

  If you want to keep the natural wood tones with a translucent Alkyd oil based product. This finish will hold the surface color for an average of 4 years.

• Unfinished

  Lets you apply your own stain, or let the wood fade to a "weathered look" in a few months.

• Off-White Oil-Based Primer

  If you're going to paint in a light color. (We apply two coats.)

• Gray Oil-Based Primer

  If you're going to paint in a darker color. (We apply two coats.)

• Wax Finish

  If you plan to use your furniture indoors and would like to keep it looking great without sealant or paint.
