Planter Boxes

Don't see the size planter box you need? We can custom-size a planter box for you, and there's no customization charge— the price will be according to amount of wood used and labor, just like the rest of our planters. We can do this because we make all our furniture by hand using old-fashioned craftsmanship.

Drainage Holes

All planters come standard with 1/4" drainage holes scattered through the base in several lines spaced out equally. If you would prefer not to have drainage holes, or would prefer some particular way of doing them, please let us know in the comment box upon checkout.

With or Without Feet

Also, you can decide whether your planter box will have feet or sit flat on the ground at no additional charge. We can build any planter box with feet that elevate it 3/4" off the ground. Planter Finishes

Want to use our planters indoors with a wax finish? If you plan to use your planter indoors and wish to have a wax finish applied (no sealant or primer), we will only apply the wax to the outside of the box, not to the areas that will hold soil.

Growing Veggies? Any planter can be ordered without interior treatment—just write us a note as you're checking out, and we will not use our oil-based sealant inside the box. We will seal the box on the outside only. The planter box will not decay because it is high quality wood.

Vertical or Horizontal Slat Orientation

On the smaller planter boxes you will be able to choose whether you want the slats to be vertical or horizontal at no additional charge. See photos at left (L-R: Vertical, Horizontal).

With or Without Sitting Ledge

You can choose to add a 5 1/2-Inch wide sitting ledge to the top edge of planters 24"W and larger so you can sit on the planter as you work, for no additional charge. See photo at right.

Options Specific to Parquet Planters

Parquet or Uniform Corners

We offer this planter with two kinds of corners: Parquet Corners (horizontal, alternating wood) or Uniform Corners (vertical trim). See images to the right (L-R: Parquet Corners, Uniform Corners). Choose your preference during checkout.

Super-Strong Casters

You can purchase super-strong casters at an additional charge. The casters are rated to handle 320 pounds each, and they lock in place! Casters can be added to almost any planter box for added mobility. Option available during checkout for planters at least 24" x 12" in size. Most planters will offer a set of four casters added to your planter for $79. (Planters 96" and longer require a set of 6 casters to accommodate the extra weight.)

The casters are a total of 4" tall. But, we also add a 1 3/4" thick extra support base for them. So, the total height of the planter is increased by 5 3/4".

Most customers choose the "no stands or feet" option like in the photo above left and they are installed on the corners. But, if you prefer feet with your planter, just choose the "3/4-inch feet" option in your shopping cart and we'll install the casters recessed in a couple inches from the corner feet.

We are often asked if we can partially hide the casters. We can add a 2 1/2" tall trim to cover approximately half the caster height. (Any more than that makes it difficult to lock and unlock the casters). If you choose to add casters to your planter, you can also choose to add this trim for a small extra charge.

We can add even stronger casters to larger planter boxes if you require. Just let us know.

Planter Stands

Make your gardening experience "bend over free!" Planter Stands are great way to get the height you need without the expense of a taller planter. On most of our planters, there is an option to add a 6-Inch, 12-Inch, 18-Inch, or 24-Inch Stand to your planter during checkout. Below is a price chart for the stand option.

Just select the next closest size from the drop-down menu in the shopping cart, and let us know in the comment box below your exact requirements. For example, if you want a 10-inch stand, select "12-inch" and write in "I would like a 10-inch stand" below.

Hanging Cleats for Planters

We also offer hanging cleats for planters up to 144"L x 12"H x 12"W— the cleats will be made with the same wood grade as your planter. The cleats are shipped with the male portions already attached to the planter. We ship the female cleats loose—and include stainless steel screws—so that you can screw them into the wall. We'll attach two, three or more cleat pairs depending on the planter size, but your cost for the cleats is the same: $15 per planter. Option available during checkout.

Water Trays for Planters

We can make Water Trays for planters in any size that you need. They can be made to sit outside the planter box as shown, or for larger planters, they can be built to sit inside the box where you can place potted plants. You can use these planters indoors as well as outside. Click on the photos at right for more information.

Trellises for Planters

The trellis frames attach to the rear of the planter wall with strong stainless steel carriage bolts in four places. The frame of the trellis is 2" x 2" thick and extends to just above ground level. The squares are made approximately 12" on center (depending on the length of your planter) to allow plants plenty of room to grow. Height is measured beginning from the top lip of the planter. Various heights are offered during checkout, from 2' to 5'. Trellises for planters longer than 96"L ship in 2 pieces. As always, if you don't see the size you'd like, just call or email us and we'll custom size a trellis to fit your particular needs. See images at right. Already have a planter? Wood Samples: If you'd like to experience the quality of our wood before placing a furniture order—or if you'd like to see first-hand the difference between our four grades of wood—we offer a set of wood samples. For $20 we'll expedite your samples anywhere in the continental US (or $25 to Hawaii, Alaska, and Canada). The purchase price will be refunded on your first furniture order.

Finish Options

Your furniture can be finished in one of six ways (select during checkout):

• Standard Sealant

  If you want to keep the natural wood tones with a quality semi-transparent linseed & tung oil based product. This finish will hold the surface color for an average of 2 years. (Young-Growth will be stained to appear like Mature-Growth; learn more.)

• Premium Sealant

  If you want to keep the natural wood tones with a translucent Alkyd oil based product. This finish will hold the surface color for an average of 4 years.

• Unfinished

  Lets you apply your own stain, or let the wood fade to a "weathered look" in a few months.

• Off-White Oil-Based Primer

  If you're going to paint in a light color. (We apply two coats.)

• Gray Oil-Based Primer

  If you're going to paint in a darker color. (We apply two coats.)

• Wax Finish

  If you plan to use your furniture indoors and would like to keep it looking great without sealant or paint.

Assembly

Most planters ship in 5 easy-to-reassemble parts. They are ready to use with drainage holes in the base and finely sanded and sealed to last for many years.
