On September 28, 2022, Hurricane Ian made landfall just west of Fort Myers, Fl. As the tragic devastation of the storm became apparent, we checked in with three of our customers whose homes were in Ian\u2019s path. We were deeply relieved to learn that they and their families were safe.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, all three customers shared the good news that their shade structures were intact, with either minimal or no damage. When the mandatory evacuation call for Hurricane Ian was issued, she left behind her home and belongings and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foreverredwood.com\/del-norte-outdoor-kitchen-pavilion.html\">Del Norte Outdoor Kitchen Pavilion<\/a> that had been completed only five months earlier. \u201cIan was the first major storm since completion,\u201d Michelle wrote in a recent email exchange.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Like many coastal Floridians, Michelle has fortified her property with flood-resistant elements such as a French drain system that feeds into sump pumps. Her Del Norte Pavilion is situated ~12 ft. above sea level.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 30ft x 15ft shade structure is built with California Redwood and finished with transparent premium sealant to highlight the wood\u2019s natural reddish hues. The custom design includes removable sections in the roof and back wall to accommodate a future fireplace. The posts are secured with Forever Redwood\u2019s high-wind anchor kit.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the hurricane, Michelle returned to a yard strewn with debris, mainly fallen limbs from the property&#8217;s eight grandfather oaks.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the Del Norte?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe pavilion sustained no damage at all,\u201d she reported.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-default\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-medium-font-size\"><strong>\u201cTrees Are Coming Down, But The Pergola Stands Strong\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\" style=\"font-size:17px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foreverredwood.com\/arched-pergola-kits.html\">Arched Pergola Kit&nbsp;<\/a>&#8211; <strong>Winds 100-120 mph<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kimberley and Barry Fisher of Fort Myers, Florida delayed assembling their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foreverredwood.com\/arched-pergola-kits.html\">Arched Pergola Kit <\/a>for as long possible, hoping to wait out the rainy season. The structure\u2019s design included a beautiful latticed roof with eight slats, Mature Redwood finished with transparent premium sealant, and a 4-post anchor kit for high winds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs luck would have it,\u201d Kim shared in an email, \u201cwe finished assembly on September 27th\u2014in the rain.\u201d Ian struck the following day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite winds that raged up to 120 mph, the pergola sustained minimal damage. \u201cWe can\u2019t say the same for our yard,\u201d Kim said. Another two to three days would be needed to finish cleaning the wreckage in the yard. A transparent rain guard spans the lattice roof.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the storm approached, Derek felt some concern about the rain guard. \u201cI was worried about it acting like a sail.\u201d But his fears were unfounded.
