"The restoration work (by Forever Redwood) is impressive and thorough; in particular, the way the tree planting is being done is by far the best I have seen in the Redwood region." J. Michael Fay, National Geographic Forestry Expert
PUNTA BANDA BUNK BEDS (BUNK BED) SPECIFICATIONS (PDF DOWNLOAD)
Specifications has the following sections, any of which you may go to directly to by clicking on it:
DIMENSIONS & DRAWINGS
All beds are 76"H total to the top of the safety railings, 66"H to the top of the upper mattress framing, and 62"H to the base of the upper mattress framing. Drawers are 7 1/2"H.
The upper mattress sits inside the frame 4 1/2". The standard safety rails are exactly 10" above the frame. Depending on the thickness of the mattress you are using, this is usually sufficient. If you are using a thick mattress or would just like the safety rails to be taller, you can choose our tall safety rail option at check out (16" instead of 10").
The Punta Banda bed does not need a box spring. The bed comes with plenty of strong Bunkie boards to support the mattress by itself. There are 47 inches of "head space" between the lower Bunkie boards where the mattress sits and the bottom edge of the upper Bunkie boards.
Each bed in the Redwood grade can support up to 750 lbs, and in Douglas-fir, up to 900 lbs total weight.
Each bed, regardless of Mattress size or wood grade chosen, can support over 1,000 lbs total weight if necessary. Upper bunks are designed to easily handle up to 500 lbs capacity. If you require more weight for any reason, just let us know and we can add additional re-inforcement for a small additional charge.

Notes:
- Standard mattress sizes are:
Twin: 75" x 39", Double: 75" x 54", Queen: 80" x 60", and King: 80" x 76". - For purposes of determining the "north" end of the bed, please assume you are looking at the bed in front of you with the length of the mattresses running from left to right. The left side is North and the right side is South. Yes, it is arbitrary, but we had to pick it one way or another!
HEADBOARD
Options:
How do I know which side is North, South, East and West? Yes, it is arbitrary, but we had to do it to figure out where our customers wanted things. See labeled photos above to determine what we are calling North, South, East and West. Please keep in mind we will prepare a drawing of your order prior to building it, so no worries if you don't get the direction correct initially. You can fix it later when you get the drawing for your feedback. Thank you. | ![]() |

FINISH OPTIONS
All our furniture ships finely sanded to 220 grit for a smooth to the touch finish.
The most popular finish is our Transparent Premium Sealant. This sealant leaves your furniture looking natural and helps keep the beautiful wood surface colors from fading for several years. We use Sikkens brand finishes because they are the best finishes on the market. For more information about our finishes and how to keep your furniture looking great year after year, please go to: https://www.foreverredwood.com/redwood-furniture/care-finish/
Unfinished (fine sanding only):
If you are applying your own stain or want the surface color to fade to a "weathered look" in a few months. We do not recommend you leave your furniture unfinished outdoors for any extended period regardless of wood quality. Outdoor weather changes constantly and it is best to at least seal the wood to protect it from consistently absorbing and losing moisture.
Transparent Premium Sealant - Recommended for Outdoors:
Below are the 5 grades of wood we offer with the Transparent Premium Sealant applied. The color tones shown are close representations of the color your furniture will look like. There is no extra charge for the Transparent Premium Sealant:

TIGER STRIPE EFFECT
Douglas-Fir when stained dark creates a "tiger stripe" effect as shown in this photo. It is beautiful and most customers love it. If you are looking for a dark consistent stain and do not want to see a “tiger stripe effect”, please go with any of the Redwood grades for a more consistent stain finish.
PRIMERS
Off-White Oil-Based Primer:
If you are painting a light color. We apply two coats so that it is ready for one final coat.

Care: Your Forever Redwood Furniture will last for decades in year-round weather without maintenance.
Depending on the wood grade you choose, even with harsh year-round outdoor conditions, you can expect your furniture to last from ten to forty years without maintenance of any kind.
Being outside year round is rough on any woods finish. The surface absorbs UV rays, pollution, constant variations in moisture and temperature and it also oxidizes. This is why most wood just doesnt hold up and the surface color slowly changes towards a silver patina over the years. But, with Forever Redwood, you dont have to worry. The silver patina is surface deep only (less than 1/64") and is not indicative of decay. Your set will last decades and is not compromised in any way by the surface color change. For example, we keep our display items as is without refinishing to show off this natural aging (we like the patina!).
Although Forever Redwood is maintenance-free, we recommended you take a few minutes as needed to clean by either hosing down and/or brushing/dusting away accumulated debris (no soap or chemicals needed). If youd like to keep your set looking its best for decades, please go to: Care and Finish
